Description

The program provides the opportunity to hear firsthand from some of our most senior leaders and is an important driver in fostering and retaining talent.

A focus of the program is the opportunity to influence change within the senior executive which is provided through key reform enablers such as the Government Sector Employment (GSE) Act, Capability Framework and Performance Management Framework.

ELE is currently delivered quarterly and continues to be revised to ensure the content and messaging is relevant and up-to-date. The involvement of Secretaries, Agency Heads and other key speakers throughout the two day workshop is pivotal to the program’s success.

Course content

The Executive Leadership Essentials program uses a lensed approach which compresses key messages into a range of different categories. The lensed approach focuses on those critical areas that are most likely to impact on senior executives and provides direct access to subject matter experts and exposure to case studies to support key theoretical concepts. Previous lenses have included:

  • The Customer Imperative
  • The Media
  • Finance
  • Workforce
  • Accountability and Information Management
  • Cabinet, Policy and Legislation.

Suited to

  • Executives (Bands 1-3 or equivalent) who are new to the NSW public sector (maximum 12 months, but ideally a much shorter time), or
  • Executives (Band 1 or equivalent) recently promoted to executive level role (within 12 months, but ideally a much shorter time).

Outcome

On successful completion of the Executive Leadership Essentials program, participants are expected to have a strong understanding of their roles as leaders within the NSW public sector as well as their responsibilities in bringing about change to help shape the future state of the senior executive.

2019 Dates

The next ELE program will be on 14-15 November 2019. Attendance is required on both dates. A networking dinner for participants is included at the end of Day 1. Nominations for these dates have now closed.

Duration

This is a two-day program, including dinner on day one. Timings are as follows:

  • Day 1: 08:30 – 19:30
  • Day 2: 08:45 – 16:30

2020 Dates

The first ELE program of 2020 will be on 19-20 March 2020. Attendance is required on both dates. A networking dinner for participants is included at the end of Day 1.

The March ELE nomination period is:

  • Nominations open: 13 January 2020
  • Nominations close: 14 February 2020

The second ELE program for 2020 will run on 4-5 June 2020. The nomination period for this program will be:

  • Nominations open: 30 March 2020
  • Nominations close: 24 April 2020

There is no formal assessment.

This program is sector funded under the Leadership Academy MOU. Any travel and accommodation costs will need to be met by the agency.
